Why Do You Love Me?

Written by Rhovonda L. Brown

“And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. (Luke 15 NKJV)

I often ask God, “Why do You love me the way that You do? Why do You put up with me? After all the wrong that I have done, is doing and going to do, why do You still put up with me?” Then the Lord made me think about something.

He made me think about my daughter and son. They’re my children. I love them with all my heart. I love them with all that I have and with all that is within me. And that’s still not enough to express just how much I love my children. Even when they are hard headed, and even when they are disobedient, and even when they mess us (majorly), I still love them. I won’t stop loving them. I can’t stop loving them because they are mine. They belong to me. I gave birth to them, and they are my gifts from God.

No matter how much they disappoint me, make me angry or hurt me, I will never stop loving them. I will always love Kourtney and Kaleb because they are my babies.

And that is why God loves me the way that He does. He loves me because I’m His. He loves me so much and forgives me so much even when I hurt Him. And guess what? He loves you the same way. God loves us so much that He risked His own Son’s life, so that we could have life, life eternal.

God’s love is much stronger, deeper, and wider than our love can ever possibly be. His love is greater than all of our sins (John 3:16)! Because we are His children and He’s our Father, He loves us.

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God…(Rom 8:15-16 NKJV)
