Just Pray – National Day of Prayer

Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful. (1)

When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. The priests could not enter the temple of the Lord because the glory of the Lord filled it. When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the Lord above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, “He is good; his love endures forever.” (2 Chron. 7:1-3, NIV)

What would happen if every Believer’s prayer was as powerful as the one Solomon prayed? So powerful that the moment you finished speaking, fire fell and God’s glory filled the place where you stood? Powerful! But what if the Believer would just pray, speaking sincere, simple words? Now, that’s powerful!

Our prayers unto God is our very own weapon that fights the enemy and keeps us standing when others have fallen (Eph. 6:14-18). As Believers, our prayers are so powerful. Why? Because we are God’s children, His beloved, adopted into His royal family. Not only that, but because of His Son, Jesus Christ, we have confidence that anything we ask according to His will, He promises to hear and answer us (1 John 5:14-15; Matt. 21:22). The Believers prayers are effectual and mighty! It works and it changes things. It’s how we communicate with our All-Powerful Father!

So, what if every Believer was united in prayer, praying like it was the last time? What if we prayed as if tomorrow was no more (because tomorrow is not promised)? What if our prayers were so sincere, so fervent, and so heartfelt that every word would prick the hearts of all who heard it? But if we would only pray? Pray until something happens, until things change. People wouldn’t remain the same. We wouldn’t be the same.

Oh, that we would only pray, this evil world that we live in wouldn’t dominate us. This world wouldn’t victimize us, scare us and rule over us. On the contrary, through prayer and surrendering to the Holy Spirit, we would be victorious and free! We would be led by Jesus’ marvelous Light. But we must pray. Pray like never before, and through our prayers, God does the impossible.

Lost souls, confused minds, the broken are waiting on us. Our sincere prayers are potent, releasing captives, healing the sick and making the broken whole. Sisters, isn’t it time we prayed like never before? Isn’t it time we stop all the nonsense, the foolish things that divide us, and just pray to our Heavenly Father? Isn’t it time we pray in earnestness and with compassion? Pray for God’s people. It’s time for us to come together, without hidden agendas, but as a unified body of Christ, and just simply pray.

Nothing more, nothing less. Just pray.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chron. 7:14, NIV)

LET’S PRAYER:

Oh, great and holy Father! We so desperately need You. Lord, we can’t do anything without You. Father, we cry out for our nation. We cry out for this dying world. We cry out for our families who don’t know You. We cry out, lifting them up to You. We lift ourselves up to You. Lord, we don’t want to be content with doing nothing. We don’t want to be satisfied with the way this world is. Father, convict us today. Give us a compassion for Your people, a heart that wants to make a difference, a mind that’s set on being an atmosphere changer. Give us the will and the wisdom to change our homes, change our communities, and our world. Father, set us on fire for You! We intercede for Your people. We build up, encourage, and reach out to the hurting. As Believers, we don’t want to wait on the next person to make a difference, but help us get up, get moving and get busy doing something. Just the smallest thing can make a drastic change. Help us to not let those who are weak fall by the wayside, but help us be the one to change another person’s life for the better. We ask and pray this prayer in Your Son’s holy name. Amen.
