It Ain’t Got Nothing To Do With Me

I love the movie The Five Heartbeats. Sometimes when my family gets together, we have our Five Heartbeats moment. We quote lines from the movie, do some of the dance routines, and sometimes we watch the entire movie acting out all of the parts. One of my favorite quotes from the movie is, “J.T., it ain’t got nothing to do with you.”

Often this quote comes to mind when I get caught up in my own way of thinking. Occasionally God has to remind me that my gifts and talents have to be for Him and Him only. Everything I do has to honor Him and bring Him praise. Not me. Sometimes God says to me, “Rhovonda, it doesn’t have anything to do with you. But it’s all about Me. I’m the Star. I’m God. I get the glory, not you. I get the praise, not you. I created everything; therefore, everything must praise Me.” (Psalm 150, Romans 14:11, Phil. 2:9-11).

Throughout scripture, God commands us to praise Him, give Him glory, honor Him, serve Him with our life, and love one another.

“Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” (Phil. 2:2-4, NLT).

Let’s do a self-check, my friend. Take a personal assessment of how we’re walking this Christian journey.

Do the people see God in everything I do? When I go throughout my day, do the people see Jesus in me? While at work, at home, in the store, at church or anywhere, does my action bring glory to God? Does my gifts and talents bring praise to God? Is God glorified in and through my life? Do I give Him all the glory and praise Him for every accomplishment and every failure? Am I doing things for my own selfish gain and desires? Am I trying to impress people or honor God?

My sister , we are God’s creation and therefore His creation should give glory, praise, and honor to the Creator. Let’s not get so wrapped up in ourselves that we neglect to let the real Star shine in our lives. Our mission, our purpose, our gifts, our talents, and our anointing should never be about us, but should always be about God.

My friend, let me remind you — as I remind myself — it ain’t got nothing to do with us, but it’s all about God.

Christ has freed us from our own selfish desires and pride. Beloved, now we walk in freedom embracing love, humility, generosity, and compassion.

I pray you have fabulous and restful weekend! May it be filled with the love of God. Your sis, Rhovonda

TODAY’S FREEDOM SCRIPTURE

Among the gods there is none like you, Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord; they will bring glory to your name. For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God. Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. (Psalm 86:8-12, NIV)
