Flowers

Those who know me, are familiar with my no-green-thumb ability. That’s right. I have none. My husband could tell you a funny story of me thinking I was gifted in this area. It’s so embarrassing. Although I do not have the knack for caring for plants and

flowers very well, I still enjoy receiving them, smelling them, and beholding them as elegant and exquisite emblems of love on display. They are beautiful and so are their fragrance.

“Give me my flowers while I can smell them,” my grandmother would often say. Like myself, she believed in the importance of giving flowers while the person is alive and well. When I say “flowers,” I am not necessarily referring to the flowers we touch and smell, though they’re wonderful to receive. However, the flowers I’m talking about are the ones we give when we take advantage of opportunities to let others know how much they mean to us. Say a kind word. Lift a disheartened friend. Send a text, email, or letter to brighten another person’s day. Next time you’re having lunch, pick up the tab. Maybe leave a note on your boss’ desk. Go ahead and buy the item you saw in the store which reminded you of a special friend. Do something nice without expecting anything in return. Do it just because you care, and you can. And do it while the other person can truly enjoy it.

Bring Me Flowers, Poem by Randy L. McClaveBring me flowers when I am living Don’t bring me them when I am dead, Let me enjoy them in the giving My mother always had said. Let me hold them in my hands And smell their fragrant scent, Then I will reminisce of different lands Before; I am heaven sent…

My sister, did you know that showing kindness (giving flowers) to someone else is not only a blessing to them, but you are also rewarded (Pro. 11:17)? Let’s not wait until the “2-3 Minute Expressions” in the obituary or standing over a person’s death bed before we express appreciation and love for them. By then, it’s too late. Much too late for them to experience joy and comfort from our acts of kindness. Think about how more wonderful it would be to deliver unexpected flowers to someone, when all is well.

Over the weekend, I celebrated my 49thbirthday. I received my flowers. They came in the form of birthday wishes, kind words via texts, social media posts, birthday cards, fresh flowers, chocolates, dinner, our traditional homemade birthday cake, unique and thoughtful gifts, and so much more. My flowers were specially delivered to me all weekend long (in fact, all month long), and it has been a blessing to receive them. I appreciate all the love everyone has shown me thus far.

Thanks for being you! I am grateful for you allowing me to experience your beautiful flowers as I celebrate another year to be alive and well. God gets all the glory!

Beloved, in addition to this devotional, I would love to give you more flowers, just because. Scroll down to download 5 TIPS TO HELP YOU …COMPLETE YOUR GOALS.

Have a wonderful week. Let’s remember to keep our eyes on Jesus as He shows us how to walk in freedom.

Your sis,

It’s Wednesday, Hump Day! Here’s our biblical principle to help us get over the hump.

Psalm 117:1-2 NKJV Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles! Laud Him, all you peoples! For His merciful kindness is great toward us, And the truth of the Lord endures forever.
